Why Open Source Location Technology?
When you calculate the length of a linestring, the area of a polygon, project a shape to a different coordinate system, or many other operations, it is quite likely you do it in a similar way to Bob. You probably have access to the same references that Bob does. If Bob’s algorithm is ever so slightly better in the short term, it likely isn’t a lasting advantage baring something like patent (let’s leave the patent system for another discussion over beer). Maybe it makes sense to use the same code that Bob does and spend less on developing it so you can spend more elsewhere? Who is Bob? Bob is everyone else doing the same thing you’re trying to do.
Are you building spatially aware applications and services? Then I’d like to speak with you to see if we can help you be successful faster and better than you imagine. Emailing me won’t hurt and you’ll likely be glad you did.
